Wait, more new art?
Another clear water painting and a quick end of the day effort on the San Diego Coast
Greetings.
Ok, here we are, big thanks to those of you who jumped in the bidding for those last two auction pieces last week, and I don’t want to overstay my welcome here, but I do have one more on the auction block right now that I happen to think is pretty special.
So while we’re here I’ll also let you see a new painting started on this San Diego trip, and if you like where it’s going, you can get dibs here before it’s even done (I’ll still take it home and finish it first though), so that’s kinda cool. Maybe. Well I think it is anyway.
Let’s see where this goes…
Depth Perception IV
24” x 30” | Check here for current bid | Bidding Closes: Friday OCT 7 at 7 PM !
There is something primordial about staring into the blackness of the deep. A sense of heightened awareness is stirred because, well, mostly because monsters. So we feel safer in shallow waters where we can see with all certainty that no such monsters lurk. And yet if the ocean is really moving its the shallows that are dangerous and the safety of deep water is what we strive for. In either case, clear water is helpful.
So it also is in the ocean of our minds. There’s times we need to go deep, and times to rest in the shallows. It depends on the turbulence we face. And just like the ocean, a little clarity is always helpful.
This series is a prayer for clarity for us all.
I think.
It gets murky sometimes.
But what is NOT murky is that this painting is currently being auctioned (50/50)to support WILDCOAST.ORG and their ongoing work protecting fragile coastal ecosystems, particularly on the Baja coast.
Because clear water is a beautiful thing.
As Yet Untitled
16” x 20” | Price when finished: $750ish | Early Bird Deal: $600 when finished
(There’s no link for this one, it’s not even done yet, just hit me up if you want to claim it. It’s a pretty rare bird these days to have an original San Diego coast painting available…)
From a quick evening paint session with Wade Koniakowsky, he was pretty excited to paint here and I guess I’m just in a strange place lately, dragging my feet, wondering what painting even means and if it weren’t for his excitement I’d have probably taken a nap in my van and called it a day.
After awhile though I remembered how fun it is to just react to beauty, and as the gray skies broke toward sunset everything just felt better and better and I felt a little lighter on my feet and began to wonder what it even means to take a nap in a van.
Life is good.
Good friends are even better.
Thanks Wade!
And for the record…
Speaking of San Diego, and speaking of Wade Koniakowsky, get yourself out to the Boardroom Surfboard Show in Del Mar, CA this weekend (October 8-9) and check out the booth Wade and I are putting together. Buckets of art (deals too), smiles, and questions about the meaning of booths. It’ll be a great time. We’d love to see you.
Cheers and Blessings to you all,
Matt
